Advanced Instructor Sung E Kyosanim
Advanced Instructor Sung E Kyosanim started training at WMAC in 2006, completing her first Black Belt test in 2015 and fourth one in 2024. She began teaching as an Assistant Instructor for children’s classes in 2012, and later also started teaching adult classes. Her daughter started training at the age of 3 years and went on to be a summer camp counselor and earned her first Black Belt in 2024.
Off the mat, for over 3 decades, she has been a social justice organizer and was a certified advocate for domestic violence / sexual assault survivors for over 10 years. Holding 2 master’s degrees from Columbia University, Sung E taught college-level courses, was a leadership coach and non-profit consultant, and Executive Director of 2 social justice organizations. Sung E is also a Certified Mindfulness Instructor with MNDFL Certification & Training, has received transmission of The Five Mindfulness Trainings (in the Plum Village Engaged Buddhism tradition) by ordination teachers who were students of the Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh, and has been hosting a weekly BIPOC sangha based on the 5 Mindfulness Trainings since 2021.
